EMFERD TANZANIA

ERICK MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
Housing improvements at EMFERD
Construction or renovation of safe and accessible housing facilities for children with disabilities and support staff at the centre. This will ensure a secure environment where children can receive proper care, rehabilitation, and education

Digital infrastructure development

Installation of reliable internet connectivity, acquisition of several computers, and installation of solar panels with battery storage to address frequent electricity blackouts in the area. This will enable EMFERDs staff to access educational resources, communicate with partners, maintain digital records, and improve administrative efficiency.
Water management system
Development of a rainwater collection and water recycling system that allows water to be stored and reused for washing facilities and irrigation of plants and gardens. This will contribute to improve hygiene, water security, and environmental sustainability.

Capacity building and educational programs for staff
Provision of specialized training programs for EMFERD caregivers and staff on disability care, inclusive education, rehabilitation techniques, and family counselling. Trained staff will also be able to guide parents and guardians who seek advice and support at the centre.
Food support for children with disabilities
Provision of funds to support the purchase of nutritious food for the children under EMFERDs care. Adequate nutrition is essential for the health, development, and well/being of children with disabilities.

EMFERD overall
The Erick Memorial Foundation for Education and Rehabilitation for Disabled (EMFERD) is establishing projects aimed at improving the living conditions, care services, and institutional capacity of its centre. EMFERD provides support to children with disabilities and their families in rural communities where access to specialized services, education, and social support is very limited.
The actions will strengthen EMFERDs ability to provide safe accommodation, improved care services and educational support to children and youth with disabilities while also supporting their caregivers and families. The project addresses several urgent challenges currently affecting the centre, including limited housing facilities for children and staff, unreliable electricity supply, lack of digital infrastructure, inadequate water management systems, insufficient training for staff working with children with disabilities, and limited resources to provide adequate nutrition.
